Akin Dawodu
Akin Dawodu is Citi’s Sub-Cluster and Banking Head for the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) since November 2019 and provides business oversight in the region’s 12 presence and 21 non-presence countries. Prior to this he was the Cluster Head for Citi in West and Central Africa as well as the Citi Country Officer (CCO) for Citi in Nigeria.
Akin joined Citi in June 2000 as a Foreign Exchange Dealer and became Chief Dealer in 2003. He left the bank in 2005 to become the first Treasurer of MTN Nigeria. He returned to Citi in July 2007 and subsequently became Fixed Income Currency and Commodities Head and Country Treasurer for Nigeria in October 2007. Akin later became the Chief Operating Officer and Public Sector Head for Citi Nigeria Limited in January 2013 and has since played a decisive role in general franchise management and developing our interface between Citi and the Nigerian Public Sector. He was appointed as Citi Nigeria’s CCO in April 2015.
Akin is a member of the Citi MEA Operating Committee and a Director on the Board of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA). In addition, he is currently the Chairperson of the Industry-wide Committee on International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) under the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) in Nigeria. He is also a past President of the Financial Market Dealers’ Association and a past Chairperson of the Competency and Industry Standards Sub Committee of the Bankers’ Committee in Nigeria.
Akin attended Kings’ College Lagos and the University of Lagos. He holds an MBA from Manchester Business School (MBS) and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) holder since 2003.
Akin is married with children and has particular interest in politics, history and football.
