Amanda Mapanda
Amanda is a senior associate in the Freshfields energy, transportation and infrastructure team and a member of the Firm’s global transactions and Africa groups. Prior to joining Freshfields, Amanda was an associate at a top pan-African law firm in Johannesburg, South Africa where she advised on a broad range of finance work. She has experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors and has worked for lender and sponsor clients on a variety of award-winning mandates on project financings, general financings and M&A transactions.
In 2017, she spent time on secondment at Terra Firma Capital Partners Limited, a UK-based private equity firm which invests across a wide range of sectors and has a focus on large, asset-rich businesses, often with complex structural or regulatory issues. In 2019, she went on an international client secondment to ENGIE within the Legal Finance team, based in Brussels, performing the role of Legal Counsel and providing in-house legal support to the Business Units globally on a variety of financial transactions and projects of the ENGIE Group.
In 2021 she was nominated for the International Project Finance Association’s International Women’s Day list as part of a drive to support change with respect to diversity and inclusion in the energy, infrastructure and renewable industries. In 2022 she was recognised in the Africa Oil Week Power List for Pan-African Female Leaders in Energy, a carefully curated list highlights Africa’s 50 most inspirational female energy leaders who act as visible role models in the industry and was also selected for the 2022 Black British Business awards Talent Accelerator Programme.
Amanda is an active community leader and mentor - between 2019-2021 she was an active committee member for Freshfields global Black Affinity Network and co-Chair for the Freshfields Mental Health Affinity Network. Amanda is passionate about the upliftment and advancement of black women in the corporate world across all industries and has been a mentor for the Women in the City Afro-Caribbean Network.-
