MaameYaa Kwafo-Akoto
MaameYaa is a partner in the Institutional Investor practice. She has fifteen years of experience advising sovereign wealth funds, family offices, insurance companies, pension funds and development finance institutions (DFIs) around the world on their investment arrangements.
On a daily basis, she advises SWFs and government entities on asset management issues. MaameYaa’s work includes public and private investments, single investor mandates and co-investment arrangements covering all asset classes including infrastructure and energy, as well as a wide variety of other agreements and financial services regulatory issues.
MaameYaa is dedicated to developing Africa. In 2021 MaameYaa supported the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) on establishing a COVID relief fund. MaameYaa supports organisations like the NSIA on deploying money into African Portfolio Investments directly and through fund vehicles. In 2022, MaameYaa provided training to the central bank of Botswana.
Earlier this year MaameYaa provided training on investing into funds to over 100 participants which included fund managers, investors and related advisors in Nigeria.
MaameYaa was shortlisted in the Women in Business Law Awards 2023, in the Investment Fund Lawyer of the Year Category. She was also named as a Rising Star in Legal Week’s British Legal Awards 2019. MaameYaa also heads A&O Shearman’s client facing diversity and inclusion initiative, the Institutional Investor Forum. In addition, MaameYaa was recognised in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2024.
